Alice, age 8

In early 2020, an explosion left Alice with severe burns over most of her body. At only age 8, she would have to begin the long road to recovery. She would need to re-learn how to walk, and how to use her arms and hands. After 2 years of skin grafts and dozens laser treatments, we were able to help Alice with scar reduction and reconstruction of the fingers. Healing doesn’t begin and end with the body. Our doctors and our treatments were able to help heal Alice’s injuries, it was Camp Samba that helped heal her soul. Facilities like Camp Samba give childhood burn survivors the chance to learn from one another, and the world around them. Being embraced by fellow survivors helped Alice gain confidence and strength to face the world as her new self. Her dream is to return to Camp Samba each year, so she can meet other survivors and share her story. With your support, we can make sure Alice and other children just like her continue to have access to such an amazing resource.
